  I had Alder Garden Services come and put down some porcelain tiles in a large-ish patio area, and then a new 20m long wooden fence as well as lots of other bits and bobs!

To be totally honest, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alder to anyone, they've done a brilliant job, been super helpful and friendly, put up with my OCD moaning, and done a really superb quality finish. Nothing was ever too much hassle and they provided options for every bit of the work I wanted which was super helpful - I'm definitely going to get them to do further work in my garden over the coming years and I'll be recommending them to anyone who needs experts in landscaping and gardening.

  We found Alder Garden Services Ltd as they are a local company to us. We chose Alder to landscape our garden as we felt they were very knowledgeable and open and honest with the quote. The cost of the garden may seem high to some but you get what you pay for and that is quality. We couldn’t be happier not only with our garden but also with Alder’s service.   We first contacted Alder before Covid as wanted the garden modernised. Covid brought us an idea for a house remodel which we completed. Then asked Alder back for advice on the garden. They came out listened to our thoughts and came up with a vision. This we worked together on and nothing was too much trouble. The visuals were outstanding and the almost finished garden has everything we hoped and asked for. It’s perfect for us and the planting just completed the vision.   We had a very difficult project with everything from very restricted access, to a multiple level garden to crazy raw material prices and an impending birth but Martin, Laura and Matt always had solutions and ideas to get around all our challenges. How much does professional landscaping cost?

The cost of landscaping your garden varies depending on your project size, complexity and your choice of materials.

However generally – as a general guide we suggest between 5-10% of your home’s value is sensible for a whole garden makeover. We suggest this from experience and also because gardens can add 15% value to your home.

How long does a landscaping project take from start to finish?

This depends on the scale of your project. Small scale projects eg small patio and turfing may take around 1–2 weeks. Larger projects that include retaining walls or drainage can be 8 weeks +. On average our projects last around 6 weeks. We can give you a better idea as to how long your project will take prior to starting.

What is the best time of year to start a landscaping project?

Landscaping can be done all year round. The different seasons can pose their own challenges, but we work through them all!

We do recommend that planting and soft landscaping jobs are best completed in spring or autumn, just to avoid the potential extremes of hot or cold weather.

Hard landscaping can be done year round, however the winter months may bring some minor delays due to frost.

Do I need planning permission for landscaping works in the UK?

Most landscaping works do not require planning permission, but there are exceptions – for instance if you plan on building retaining walls over 1m in height next to a road or 2m anywhere else, raising the ground level or installing tall fencing.

We recommend checking with your local authority to see if the changes you’re making require permission.
